Abstract

More than 700 people between the ages of 17 and 20 are killed annually on the roads in Australia. Of these 40% are car drivers, 40% passengers, and 15% are motorcyclists. Accident rates are highest in the under 20 age group, diminishing progressively as age increases. The causes of this almost exclusively male phenomenon are imputed to frustration, aggression, social pressures, and alcohol.
