Abstract

Hand and foot performance was directly compared in only a few experiments, the results of which are generally inconclusive. This, many revealing opinion about disadvantages of foot versus hand operation of controls lacks experimental support. In contrast to recommendations in human engineering guides, the feet perform vital control operations in automobiles and aircraft. Further research into the biomechanics of leg and foot control could lead to assigning tasks to the feet that are hitherto considered to be in the domain of the hands.
