On Lake Vänern in Sweden 3,500,000 tons of goods are shipped every year. As a part of a larger inquiry this report outlines the consequences of a shift of all goods transport from shipping to transport by road traffic (2,900,000 tons) and railway (600,000 tons). On the road network concerned it is calculated that heavy vehicle traffic will increase by 14%. This, in turn, increases the number of accidents with 40 per year (2.1%). The journey time for today's road users would increase to ca 0.6 per mille. Calculations are also presented for the increase of emissions of hydrocarbon, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide and nitrogen oxides. The increase of nitrogen oxides are considerable: ca 680 tons per year.
