The Dutch Government have recognised the tension between the economic benefits of continued growth at Schiphol and the environmental consequences particularly in terms of noise should this growth be permitted. During the past decade there has been ongoing assessments of this issue and the associated development of government policy regarding the expansion of the airport. This paper includes a brief review of the development of government policy regarding Schiphol airport and the associated model forecasts. The paper concentrates on the fleet planning module and explains the methods employed. The paper concludes by illustrating the effects of different potential developments at Schiphol airport on the fleet operating.
