Test road Bankeryd 1981 was built with a stabilized road base of Merolit, a product consisting of a mix of air-cooled and granulated blast furnace slag with iron dust and lime as an activator. The purpose of the test road was to examine a proposed directive from the Swedish Road Administration of inclusion as a separate chapter in their building directives for roads. Extensive follow-up analyses were made during 1981-1989 of the test sections in regard to bearing capacity, road surface evenness, cracking and compressive strength of extracted cores, among other parameters. However, because the Merolit delivered to the test road did not come up to expectations, primarily in regard to strength development, it was not included in the directive. (A)
