Abstract
An information report is given as an aid to Local Authorities in the planning and realization of measures that are aimed at creating traffic environment of high quality for all categories of pedestrians. An introductory description is given of the conditions under which different categories of pedestrians are able to cope with traffic situations in particular the possibilities for children, the aged and the handicapped to move around on foot in the urban environment of today. Technical aspects of the design of footpaths, pavements and pedestrian crossings are also included.
