Abstract

The contactless ticketing system - a combination of two technologies, the smartcard (for transaction security) and radio-frequency transmission (for speedy validation) - has begun to be put through testing in Paris and its region by 1000 passengers since March 1997. The final results of site 1, available since October 1997, are particularly satisfactory. Two other field trials, one with the "pre-debiting" scenario and the other with the "post-debiting" scenario began respectively in December 1998 and in February 1999. The generalisation of the FRANCILE project - decided at the end of June 99 - is based on a gradual approach (by customer and by equipment). The opening up of the service to the first customers is set for October 2001.
