Abstract

In this paper, relations between accidents and freeway illumination is several large U.S. cities are reported. Lighted freeways were found to have better (lower) night-day accident ratios than unlighted freeways. Among lighted freeways, however, those with lower levels of illumination exhibited better night-day accident ratios.
