Abstract

A study of urban traffic operations was conducted on the Gulf Freeway in Houston. The study investigated those areas which give greatest promise for immediate implementation to relieve traffic congestion and to improve safety for the largest number of urban motorists. The major areas of study were: traffic control, detection andelearance of disabled vehicles, and driver communications. Although not all objectives were completed, a review of the accomplishments of the studies is presented.
