Abstract

A simulation model is developed and tested in order to achieve increased efficiency of freeway operations through entrance ramp controls. Efficiency is desired with respect to reduced waiting time, vehicle travel time, and total vehicle flow time. The computer simulation based on synthetic data reflecting the volume and time distribution of travel demand, was run for different entrance ramp control policies.
