Freeway level of service as influenced by volume and capacity characteristics.

Abstract

As applied to the traffic operation on a particular roadway, level of service refers to the quality of the driving conditions afforded a motorist by a particular facility. Factors which are involved in the level of service are a) speed and travel timet b) traffic interruption, c) freedom to maneuver, d) safety, e) driving comfort and convenience, and f) vehicular operational costs.
