Abstract

The increasing scale in the design of freight transport infrastructure networks necessitates accounting for multiple modalities, commodities, and actors, and their interactions. This thesis presents a freight transport model that enables the integrated design of infrastructure, services, and policy. A case study on the Dutch container transport system yields new insights into how an integrated design contributes in managing the costs of freight flows while ensuring a sustainable living environment.
