Abstract

A thorough list of issues requiring government and research attention for freight transport in urban areas is given. After a brief summary of deficiencies in the existing system the paper treats four major problem areas: 1) movement of urban freight; 2) interactions of freight and passenger traffic; 3) urban form and quality; 4) roles for government in urban freight transport.
