Abstract

Work on a conflict technique was undertaken at ONSER in 1973, with the primary aim of providing an instrument for measuring danger suitable for evaluation studies in urban areas. Possible use of conflict data in safety diagnosis on hazardous locations was also tested. The technique and summary of the work done before 1979 are described briefly. New developments in the french technique after 1979 are presented. Results of the validation and calibrations led to modification of the technique in the following aspects (1) the observers (2) the length of the data collection period and (3) the risk-matrix. Further use of the conflict technique is given. For the covering abstract of the conference see IRRD abstract no 265671.
