Abstract

Tire disablement is considered to be a contributing factor in highway accidents. An investigation is made into the tire disablement and also total vehicle mileage travelled during the period that the disablement occurred. The method adopted was to stop and question drivers about their tires. The study does not examine the relationship between total incidence of tire disablement and the incidence of tire disablements that results in accidents. The study is only concerned with-tired. two axle vehicles, which are primarily passenger cars.
