Abstract

A 9347 km cross-country fuel economy test was conducted to demonstrate fuel savings that can be obtained by using drag reducing equipment on tractor-trailer trucks, and to ascertain the degree of correlation of the data of fuel savings from drag reduction experiments on models in a wind tunnel. The measured fuel savings obtained from the cross-country test was 75 p/m 15% of the predicted value, and that of the wind tunnel system was 78 p/m 4% of the predicted value.
