Abstract

By making use of a test method developed by the University of Maryland (under a U.S. Department of Transportation contract), fuel saving tests were carried out with four "add on" aerodynamic devices for trucks. The trucks involved were Volvo F88 truck trailer combinations (closed canvas covered trailers) having total weights of about 35 tons. The experiments took place on flat highways near Gorkum in the Netherlands.
