Abstract

In a full-scale experiment started in 1975 on trunk road A1 at Buckden, Cambridgeshire, the performance of a range of wearing-course materials, currently available for maintenance, is being assessed. The composition, mixing and laying of open-textured macadam, pervious macadam, delugrip, dense bitumen macadam, rolled asphalt and surface-dressing are described in this report. design tests on the delugrip, dense bitumen macadam and rolled asphalt are reported, together with results of analysis of samples taken both at the plant and on site. Initial values of texture depth, permeability and voids are given for the surfacings, subsequent measurements will be reported later. (Author/publisher)
