Abstract

A study has recently been undertaken on behalf of the British Standards Institution of the state of development and use of non- coin operated parking payment systems. A survey of manufacturers of such equipment both in the UK and abroad identified a range of such systems varying from very simple read- only devices through several types of decrementing systems to credit cards and smart cards. Particular attention is being paid by manufacturers to aspects of card security, provision of a secure audit trail and ease of maintenance.
