Abstract

The implications for urban transport are examined in terms of Automobility, Urban Public Transport, Road Building, and the Auto Industry. Considerably more stringent fuel economy standards that encourage innovation are urged even though these may reduce auto ownership and use. The very strengths needed to reduce the nation's dependence upon imported oil are also its weakest points if a sustained shortfall ever occurs.
