Abstract

The keys to a successful wireless ITS industry are functionality and cost. The trend toward the merging of PDAs and cell phones and of handheld and mobile devices, along with the advent of more capable wireless networks, offers the promise of a wide range of timely, location relevant, personalized services. A number of paradigm shifts are contributing to and accompanying this trend, and a variety of hurdles need to be addressed and overcome. This paper explores the evolving wireless ITS services industry, including both ITS promise and ITS challenges.
