Abstract

If sports stadia are located close to public roads, their lighting may cause considerable glare for motorists. The article shows how the admissible luminous intensity of the lighting fitting can be approximated when a certain decrease of visibility is admitted. The disability glare caused by sports stadia is calculated for a number of different cases. The admissible light intensities can vary widely according to the values taken for the geometry; however, it seems that for most practical situations the light intensity of fittings for sports stadia should be under some 60 000 cd.
