Abstract
Over the past decades, road safety in the Netherlands has grown steadily. However, the number of traffic victims have hardly declined since the year 1991. This report discusses whether the Dutch national government road safety purposes for the years 2000 and 2010 can be reached. These purposes are as follows: (1) 25% fewer traffic fatalities in the year 2000 than in 1985; (2) 50% fewer traffic fatalities in the year 2010 than in 1986; (3) 25% fewer severely injured persons in 2000 than in 1985; and (4) 40% fewer severely injured people in 2010 than in 1986.
