Abstract

One of the methods for reducing the total number of vehicle journeys, and the pollution of the environment caused by it, is to replace these vehicle journeys by the combined use of the bicycle and public transport. In this report the expected effect on the selection of transport mode is determined by removing the existing disencentives for bicycle use and for public transport. The main point in the analysis is the ratio between the journey time by public transport or by car. A decrease in car use of 1.2% of the total annual vehicle kilometers can be achieved. The total kilometers travelled by public transport can increase with 14 per cent.
