Results are presented of a case study, with several companies, on the (negative) effect of congestion in the road network upon the distribution of goods. This study aimed at obtaining a better understanding of the need for (infrastructural) measures dedicated to freight transport. If the need for these indeed exists, a subsequent objective is to determine which segment of the freight transport needs such measures most. To answer this question the transport market has been segmented according to logistic aspects, average trip length, pricing and transport characteristics (distribution versus point to point transport).
