The results are presented of a case study, with several companies, on the negative effect of congestion in the road network upon the distribution of goods. The background to the study is the question of: a) whether it is a necessity for infrastructural measures in particular aimed at freight transport; and b) If the need for this does indeed exist, to determine which segment of the freight transport needs such measures most. To answer this question the market has been subdivided, according to logistic aspects, average trip length, pricing and transport characteristics (distribution versus point to point transport).
