Abstract

Based on the fact that traffic signals for pedestrians do not indicate unambiguously how to behave, and the fact that there is no relationship existing between the colour of the pedestrian signal and the possible arrival of conflicting traffic at the pedestrian crossing, a basic approach towards traffic signals for pedestrians is put forward. The author concludes that the red stop-signal for pedestrian should no longer be shown.
