Abstract

A study has been made to the total costs (accident, construction and maintenance) of the use of steel safety fences and concrete crash barriers on the central reserve of motorways. Results show that from the point of view of costs and safety the use of steel safety fences has the preference. A mathematical model is developed by which the expected number of collisions with the safety fence in the central reserve in a real situation can be estimated.
