Abstract

New Dutch legislation on noise production caused a study to be carried out on the effect of traffic measures. The authors make a division between what they call incidental measures (speed reduction, flow improvement, etc.) and structural measures, like prohibiting certain kinds of traffic from using certain streets, etc. They give an indication of the possibilities in existing situations, old as well as new ones, on sites outside built up areas and in situations still to be designed. The article gives suggestions for further investigations into structural measures in existing urban structures and into the influence of the introduction of maximum noise levels on the design of new urban structures.
