Abstract

During the summer of 1973 car occupancy in the south-west of Friesland varied from 1.70 to 3.32 persons per car. Differences appear to depend on differences in trip purpose (i.e. home-work trips, business trips, recreational trips etc.) and on the season. Cars with only 1 or 2 persons take both nearly 30% of the traffic volume. On Sundays most types of trips have a car occupancy very different from those on working days.
