Abstract

This paper presents a capacity formula for unsignalized intersections that is general enough to be applicable to intersections with non Poissonian traffic streams with non homogeneous and inconsistent behaviour of minor road drivers, and which can take into account impedance effects. It generalizes most known capacity formulae. The relation to these formulae is cleared up. The dependence of the capacity on gap distributions and bunching of major road traffic, on impedance, and on the parameters describing the behaviour of minor road drivers is investigated.
