Abstract

This paper is a comment on a position paper on punishment and behaviour change written for the Australian Psychological Society. The present paper suggests that insufficient attention has been given to the value of general deterrence, and that there is reason to believe that, under the right circumstances, general deterrence can be a very effective way to change behaviour.
