Abstract

Recently IT (Information Technology) has been utilized in various fields of civil- engineering structures. Optical fibers have been tried as sensors to measure structural strain, ground deformation, and temperature, and are installed for measuring road structures, tunnels, rivers, and structures on excavation slopes. It is expected that ITS (Intelligent Transport Systems) will be developed into a more advanced and highly convenient system by organically combining it with the optical monitoring system of civil-engineering structures, and in order to achieve this, we are investigating an ideal inspection system which can process and analyze an enormous amount of real time data utilizing GIS technology, etc., as well as investigating the construction of a general monitoring system of road facilities which can perform completely from monitoring to maintenance control utilizing an information communication network.
