Abstract

This paper presents the General Packet Radio Service on GSM as the ideal communication system for SOCRATES, in particular, and ATT, in general. Firstly, the general requirements of ATT are examined before reviewing the specific needs of SOCRATES. It is shown how GSM is the most suitable communications standard currently available, and how it is being optimised to support such applications. Finally, the extent to which these requirements have been reflected in the design of the GPRS is described. (A)
