Abstract

Future in-vehicle subsystems dealing with safety and comfort will be supported by information contained in digital maps. Based on vehicle's currentposition, driving direction and digital map, a so-called "Electronic Horizon" can be calculated. The Electronic Horizon provides all probable pathsahead of the vehicle along with any data available in the map. Since in-vehicle subsystems do not have the computational power to handle the full Electronic Horizon, only the "Most Likely Path" is being used. This paper describes an accurate and efficient algorithm that allows calculating Most Likely Path data without the need to generate any Electronic Horizon data.For the covering abstract see ITRD E134653.
