Abstract

The Swedish National Road Administration and other traffic authorities in Sweden, including the Swedish National Road and Transport Research Institute (VTI), have during the last decade gradually introduced GIS in many of their applications. Typical examples include the planning and forecasting process, environmental computations and traffic safety. In this paper, it is summarised some of the experiences and concrete examples are given of applications where GIS successfully has been used. The paper also contains a brief description of the Swedish road database. (A)
