Abstract

Too often are the geometrics of roadways determined without proper reference to the other elements associated with their design. Pavement life, decadence of adjacent properties, location of public services are but a few aspects the author highlights in respect of urban arterials. He poses the question whether it is judicious to construct and upgrade miles of urban streets to minimum standard rather than a lesser mileage to a higher standard.
