Abstract

Evaluating a driving licence holder's aptitude to drive will gain in significance in the coming years. In view of demographic developments and rising life expectancy, the focus will be primarily on medical examinations testing the driving ability of motorists aged over 70. Treating physicians or general practitioners will thus increasingly be confronted with questions such as how to handle patients who are no longer fit to drive, what duties of information they have vis-à-vis their patients in this respect, and whether they should or must report persons unfit for driving to the relevant road traffic authorities.
