Abstract

This paper looks at the Byerstown Range road construction projects in Far North Queensland. The Byerstown Range project is located in the dry tropics on Cape York Peninsula. The project represents Main Roads first attempt to incorporate best practice environmental management into a large-scale road construction project. A number of key factors contributed to the success Byerstowns' erosion and sediment control program. This paper details the experience gained from the Byerstown Range project so that the important lessons learned can be incorporated into future road projects.
