Abstract

This chapter provides a systematic treatment of guidelines for each of the major functions in GIDS, planning and navigation, manoeuvring, and control, also frequently referred to as applications. The functions described include: navigation support; collision avoidance support; control support through active control devices; adaptive support of novice and inexperienced drivers; and the GIDS calibrator. The final section describes how the various functions should be integrated into one coherent system in which all functions are adapted to human capacities without interfering with each other or with the driving task. For the covering abstract see IRRD 859107.
