Abstract

Under scotomatic glare conditions the ability to see the gaps in Landolt rings presented at angular distances of 4, 7, and 10 degrees from a glare source is studied in 112 individuals varying in age between 5 and 85 years. When the glare luminance is varied between 1 and 15,000 mL. the luminance of the target screen on which the Landolt rings are presented must be increased proportionally. This increase necessary for the recognition of the targets becomes progressively greater as age increases.
