Abstract

A simple method is given for determining the degree of discomfort glare in street lighting installations. This method is derived from results obtained partly from new investigations and partly from previous tests. Results arrived at by this method are compared with the glare produced in existing lighting installations. A comparison is also made with the rules laid down in the recommendations for public lighting published by the CIE and the BSI code. It is suggested that standards for the limitation of glare, for use in street-lighting codes, can be determined on the basis of this method.
