Abstract

1.3 million people die in crashes on the world’s roads every year and a further 50 million are injured. In order to address this major health crisis, the UN has declared 2011-2020 as the Decade of Action for Road Safety. This will officially commence on 11 May 2011. A national roundtable was held to identify ways that Australia can contribute to this initiative within the region and globally in order to reduce this health burden. Opportunities for government agencies, industry, professional bodies, research institutions, road user groups and individuals are identified in the report. (Author/publisher)
