Abstract

This global analysis of accident data in the Netherlands during 1979 is mainly descriptive and is concerned with the number of fatalities, but it also aims to highlight the wanted and unwanted developments in traffic. In consequence of this, it is possible to act much earlier than before. The number of fatal accidents or personal injury accidents was 48832 in 1979, which is 9% less than in 1978. The number of traffic fatalities in 1979 was 1977 which is a decrease of 14%. During the first three months the large number of accidents was mainly due to the very bad weather conditions.
