Abstract

DaimlerChrysler Services Mobility Management is one of the leading services providers of mobility and telematics services through its activities in two units: Public-Private Traffic Management and Mobile Applications. Toll Collect is the largest telematics project in the Public-Private Traffic Management area. It is based on mobile communications and global positioning system (GPS) technology. The system charges on the basis of the precise number of kilometres driven. DaimlerChrysler Services is establishing Traffic Management Centres (VMZ) in conjunction with city governments. The goal of the VMZ is to optimise the existing traffic infrastructure and to increase the attractiveness of the municipalities as business centres. VMZ Berlin is described. The unit Mobile Applications offers advanced telematics for freight traffic, which can be operated using the Toll Collect system. The systems include Fleet Monitoring, Shipment Tracking, Vehicle Management and dynamic navigation. The Web/WAP-based service City Companion provides information on city events, routing, traffic and parking. For the covering abstract see ITRD E115762.
