Abstract

Reports on goals for the development of the city centre of cities in different countries are presented. A comparison of the various city centres has been worked out. Statistics actually show that the continuous growth of the city centre, which was the rule in the pre-automobile age, now has changed to a stagnation in the total floor area in the centre. The office floor area, however, continues to increase, while other activities decrease.
