Abstract

This paper gives an overview of the mission, the method and the models used in the New Course Freight Transport study (Trendbreuk scenario goederenvervoer). This study describes the transportation of goods in the year 2015, based on a set of environmental preconditions for a 'sustainable development'. The study describes three alternative ways to reach this development. These include: (1) 'Green technology': technical improvements on cars and infrastructure; (2) 'Green logistics': logistical optimalization; and (3) 'Green transport': combined road-rail and road-water transport. An important result of the study is a description of a system concerning the transportation of goods that could be the outcome of a sustainable development.
