Abstract

The reasons for grade separation of pedestrian crossings are examined. Various factors which need to be taken into account such as warrants, the choice between an overpass and an underpass and design considerations are discussed. The procedures used in Victoria to select and approve grade separated pedestrian crossings are described and grade pedestrian crossings over freeways and in the Central Business District are discussed.
