Abstract

Seven local government areas make up the Hobart Metropolitan Area and in excess of 50 road projects (new construction; widening, intersection control and channelisation; rehabilitation) are currently under consideration for implementation over the period 1988- 1998. In an environment of scarce funding and strongly held views as to the relative "worth" of the projects, it was clear that a simple and resource efficient methodology for the evaluation and ranking of such projects was required. The evaluation procedure described in this paper provides a low cost approach to the economic and social /environmental assessment and raking of road projects.
