Abstract

Greening of transport is launched as a European strategy for coping with CO2 emissions but also as a general means to improve overall freight transport sustainability. But which is the most efficient deployment strategy? Technology is available, but we are missing a coherent and jointly agreed approach to the governing mechanisms to use as well as a common opinion onthe related key performance indicators. We need a European framework to guide and promote national, regional and local efforts in public and private organization. This paper presents some food for thought on the practicaloptions.
